Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie

I mean, it’s Sherman Alexie. He’s an amazing, beautifully complex writer who doesn’t shy away from painful subjects but also doesn’t turn them into poverty porn or an oversimplified tragedy that wrenches at the heart but doesn’t make you think. This novel is semi-autobiographical, and is about a kid who’s grown up on the Spokane reservation but is going to an all-white high school, and the challenges that go along with that.
