Every Soul A Star, by Wendy Mass

I didn’t want to read this book at first because I wasn’t particularly interested in a story about “three unlikely friends, one incredible event.” But this novel about a family leaving a scientific outpost, a family arriving, and a kid sent to salvage a grade, is surprisingly moving. It’s got some good science, because it’s centered around a solar eclipse, and the events leading up to the eclipse are surprisingly suspenseful. The characters are well drawn and avoid caricature, even (especially) the shallow mean girl.
